Police are looking for dashcam footage after a a newborn baby was dumped outside a fire station on the outskirts of Canberra on Thursday.

A newborn was discovered at the entrance of the South Tuggeranong ACT Fire & Rescue Station in Conder, approximately 30 kilometers from Canberra’s city center, around 7:20 a.m. on November 27.

Authorities, relying on public tips, suspect that a blue SUV was present at the fire station, positioned at the intersection of Tharwa Drive and Drakeford Drive, before the infant was left there.

“Following guidance from the ACT Ambulance Service clinician, our team brought the baby inside, provided care, and promptly contacted ACTAS, the Australian Federal Police, and ACT Policing for further assistance,” stated Chris White, ACT Fire & Rescue superintendent.

The infant, believed to be just a day old, was transported to the hospital by ambulance, showing no visible injuries.

“Our primary concern is the mother’s health and safety,” emphasized Alex Nicolson, ACT Policing detective superintendent.

“I strongly encourage the mother to seek medical care. Please visit a hospital, call for an ambulance, or contact the police,” Nicolson added.

Investigators are urging anyone with dashcam footage of the fire station between 5am and 7.30am on Thursday to come forward.

Locals who believe a friend or family member may be the mother are asked to encourage her to seek medical help as soon as possible.
