Israeli PM lashes out at 'global campaign of lies'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended a recent military campaign in one of Gaza’s densely populated regions, amid increasing criticism both domestically and internationally, by stating that Israel “must complete the task and fully defeat Hamas.”
He addressed foreign media on Sunday shortly before an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council regarding the situation in Gaza.

Netanyahu remarked that recently he has instructed Israel’s military to “allow entry to more foreign journalists”—a significant move as journalists haven’t been permitted into Gaza aside from military-escorted visits during the 22-month-long conflict.

Additionally on Sunday, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz visited the northern region of the Israeli-controlled West Bank, where approximately 40,000 Palestinians have been displaced this year, marking the largest forced movement in the territory since its capture by Israel in 1967.

Israel justifies these actions as necessary to eliminate militancy, citing an increase in violence from all parties since the onset of the Gaza conflict. Katz mentioned that the military would maintain a presence in the region’s refugee camps at least until the end of the year, noting a significant decrease of 80 percent in alerts about potential attacks against Israelis in the West Bank since the operation’s start in January.
