In the aftermath of the incident, one kitten remained missing, while another was swiftly taken to Lort Smith Animal Hospital by a concerned passerby who stumbled upon it.
The kitten, now affectionately named Dorothy, is receiving treatment for a likely fractured pelvis and is currently in foster care, returning to the hospital for ongoing medical attention.
“It’s inconceivable how anyone could inflict such harm on any animal, especially helpless six-week-old kittens,” expressed Dr. Jessica Wilde, chief veterinarian at Lort Smith.
“Our team was devastated by this cruel act. Yet, Dorothy’s resilience is remarkable, and we’re committed to supporting her recovery,” Dr. Wilde added.
Dr. Wilde emphasized that the individual responsible for this act had “no justification” for their behavior.
“There are numerous veterinarians and shelters across the state eager to care for animals like Dorothy,” she pointed out.
“Tossing them out of a window is simply unacceptable and beyond cruel.”
Lort Smith nurse Jordan is taking care of Dorothy while the kitten continues to receive treatment.
“She is such a beautiful little girl and despite her terrible start to life, is getting stronger every day, we will make sure to stay by her side and give her all the love and care she needs to get through this traumatic event,” Jordan said.
