Simultaneously, demonstrations broke out in at least nine additional US cities on Monday, responding to the administration’s stance on immigration, as reported by local media in New York, Philadelphia, Austin, and San Francisco, among others.
‘First in, last out’
In a related event earlier on Monday, President Trump expressed his support for arresting California Governor Gavin Newsom, following Newsom’s pledge to challenge the federal government legally over the deployment of the National Guard to Southern California, labeling it as unlawful.
‘Unmistakable step toward authoritarianism’
“We are suing Donald Trump,” Newsom declared on X. “This is a fabricated crisis. He is instilling fear and panic to commandeer a state militia and infringe upon the US Constitution.”
California’s suit accuses Trump of exceeding his authority under the statute and asks a court to declare his actions unlawful.

The bill, now in the US Senate after clearing the US House of Representatives, would also slash taxes, cut Medicaid benefits, and end green-energy initiatives.
