That’s because while he was away, workers had installed new signs banning all-day parking.

They had then slapped tickets on his and other cars.

The man, who didn’t want to be named, told 9news.com.au he felt it was “a money grab by the council”.

He left his car at 7am and returned to find the ticket at 3.19pm.

The $140 fine was issued because the car was now in a two-hour parking zone on Huntley Street in Alexandria.

But, he said, he had parked there for seven years without any problem.

Other drivers were also issued fines and the man said one young worker was crying.

“7am start of work day no signage and rained all morning,” he posted online.

“This afternoon as it’s cleared up they have put up signage and instantly issued fines.

“No signage by council to warn of when ticketing will commence.”

The driver possessed a photograph that showed the sign was not previously present, as he noticed that signs had been put up on the other side of the street.

After being contacted by 9news.com.au, parking bosses said all the tickets will be cancelled.

A City of Sydney spokeswoman admitted the blunder.

“The ticket was issued in error after a delay in the parking sign installation and will be cancelled,” she said.

“If a motorist receives a fine and believes a mistake has been made, they can request a review through Revenue NSW.”
