Two individuals are currently in custody in Georgia, awaiting transfer to North Carolina to face charges related to a murder case.

Jonathan Charles Shores, aged 33, was reported missing by his family on November 11. Tragically, his remains were not discovered until November 20, following the arrest of Jose Guadalupe Lopez, 26, and his 31-year-old girlfriend, Brennan Summer Alexander, in Georgia, as confirmed by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina.

When Georgia law enforcement halted Lopez on November 10 in Richmond County, they were unaware of Shores’ disappearance. Lopez, found driving Shores’ car, was apprehended for firearm possession as a convicted felon. Authorities initially released the vehicle to Alexander, who was subsequently arrested the next day in Columbia County for a hit and run.

Upon learning of the missing person case from North Carolina, Georgia authorities impounded the vehicle, observing a potential bullet hole and biological evidence within.

Investigators from Davidson County traveled to Georgia to advance their inquiry, retrieving Shores’ vehicle for further examination in North Carolina. Shortly thereafter, Lopez was charged in North Carolina with robbery using a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Alexander faced charges as an accessory after the fact.

The investigation revealed that Lopez allegedly shot Shores on November 9. Following the incident, he and Alexander reportedly fled the scene in Shores’ vehicle, later abandoning Shores’ body in Fairfield County, South Carolina, approximately 130 miles from where the crime occurred.

After authorities found the body, Lopez received further charges of first degree murder and concealing a death, with Alexander charged with accessory to those crimes.

Authorities have not described a motive for the murder, and the timeline for the suspects’ extradition is unknown.
