A teenager, aged 16, was bitten on their leg, bicep, and wrist. Fellow swimmers and surfers quickly brought them to shore, where an off-duty paramedic on the beach administered first aid, and the teen was then airlifted to a hospital.

He remains in a serious condition.

Witness Archie Scally mentioned he was enjoying the scenery when he accidentally recorded a dramatic video of the shark trailing the group towards the shore.

“We were just enjoying the view, taking some videos, and suddenly we saw all the surfers rushing towards the shore, shouting and yelling,” Scally explained.

“It was pretty confronting, especially all the kids that were there for the attack.

“Looking back on the footage, we could make out the shark attack, and you know the shark coming all the way into the shore.”

Beaches along the Tweed Coast have now reopened, but many remain empty of swimmers due to further sightings.

Video has since surfaced of a close call with a shark at Greenmount at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast, just 20 minutes north of Cabarita Beach.

Surfer Futa Hashimoto claims he was chased by a shark between seven and eight feet long.

“It’s pretty big, that’s why I got scared,” Hashimoto said.
