Keith Urban could potentially earn over $17 million after separating from Nicole Kidman, all due to an unexpected prenuptial agreement focused on his sobriety.

The 57-year-old artist from New Zealand is said to have signed a prenuptial deal with Kidman, 58, before their 2006 marriage. According to Radar Online, this agreement entitles him to receive $900,000 for each year they were married.

Nevertheless, a significant condition termed the ‘Cocaine Clause’ in the contract stipulates Urban can only claim this money if he refrained from using drugs and alcohol throughout their marriage.

Across their 19-year marriage, the former power couple accumulated a massive property portfolio worth a reported $282 million.

Urban has long been open about his past struggles with addiction.

In a 2010 interview with Oprah Winfrey, he recalled how Nicole staged an intervention just months after their wedding.

Keith Urban stands to gain over $17 million due to an unusual prenuptial agreement linked to maintaining his sobriety. Both are pictured.

Urban recalled Kidman’s crucial decision to intervene at a pivotal moment, stating, “She decided to take action, ensuring the atmosphere was filled with love. At that point, I was ready to accept help.”

He said the intervention saved his life and marked the start of his long road to sobriety – all with Nicole by his side.

The couple, who share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, have been living apart since early summer.

During a music tour, Urban left their home in Nashville, while Nicole remained with their children, managing a hectic filming schedule in London. She rented an extravagant mansion for $87,000 monthly to film the sequel to Practical Magic.

Sources say the split grew more noticeable after the death of Nicole’s mother in  September 2024: ‘It’s like they both went their separate ways,’ an insider told Woman’s Day.

Their last public appearance together, at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match in June, hinted at tension.

Body language expert Louise Mahler noted Kidman was ‘fiddling with her left hand,’ while Urban avoided eye contact – a far cry from their usual displays of affection.

Urban has previously spoken about how close their marriage came to falling apart.

The New Zealand-born singer reportedly signed a prenuptial agreement with Nicole before their 2006 wedding, which awards him $900,000 for every year of marriage

At the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala last year, he admitted: ‘We got married in 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens.’

Despite the split, sources suggest a reunion is still possible – though their busy schedules keep them apart.

Urban continues to tour, while Nicole balances family life with her filming commitments.

Back in June last year, Urban stunned the A-list crowd while honouring Nicole at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute when he candidly revealed that his addictions almost blew up his marriage.

‘We got married in 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens,’ he began.

Keith admitted he was battling addiction at the time he met Nicole.

But with her support, he eventually managed to pull through.

‘Four months into a marriage, and I’m in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us.’

‘Nic pushed through every negative voice – I’m sure even some of her own – and she chose love.

‘And here we are tonight 18 years later. Her capacity to love is like no one I’ve ever met.’
