Kristi Noem took to the stage in Nashville, Tennessee, to speak at a law enforcement gathering just after Donald Trump announced her removal from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Despite the timing, Noem did not address her dismissal during her remarks.
The DHS has been shuttered for 20 days, yet numerous employees continue their work, often without compensation. The situation has sparked considerable discussion and concern.
Noem has faced scrutiny, not only on immigration issues but also regarding the Trump administration’s handling of disaster response and the speed at which emergency funding was approved through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Criticism has poured in from various quarters, including within her own Republican Party.
