Two men have been charged after allegedly attacking a police officer during a brawl at a pub in Sydney’s CBD.
Yesterday around 5:40 pm, police responded to a hotel on Broadway following reports of a group at the bar allegedly shouting offensive remarks at pedestrians, which then escalated into a brawl.
Officers attempted to disperse the group, upon which it’s alleged a 48-year-old man attacked a male constable.
It’s further alleged that when the constable attempted to arrest the 48-year-old, a 29-year-old man also attacked the officer.
Police deployed capsicum spray and both men fled but were arrested after a short foot pursuit.
The men were charged with assaulting police, affray, and resisting or hindering police.
They were refused police bail and will appear in court today.
9News understands the two men had earlier been involved with the anti-immigration protests in the city.
Police say the officer who was allegedly attacked suffered minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
