The New South Wales Rural Fire Service has announced that “the smoke is expected to gradually clear through the morning.”

They also advised, “Please only call Triple Zero (000) if you see an unattended fire.”

The current blaze covers an area of 432 hectares and has been successfully contained.

Firefighting teams spent yesterday reinforcing containment lines on the northwestern perimeter of the fire, located to the east of Moffats Swamp Nature Reserve.

Local residents are advised to remain alert and keep informed as conditions may change unexpectedly.

Meanwhile, the fire at Nerong spans 916 hectares and is still not under control.

The NSW government’s air quality monitoring service ranked the air quality in the east of Sydney, Central Coast and Lake Macquarie regions as ‘poor’.

Meanwhile air quality is ‘fair’ in the central west Sydney, south-west Sydney, Illawarra, Lower Hunter, Upper Hunter and Riverina-Murray regions.
