Oscar reveals what went wrong

The Australian driver left his supporters heartbroken after crashing his McLaren during the reconnaissance lap.

“Such an incident is inexcusable, so it’s obviously very disappointing,” he expressed.

“While there were a few factors at play, the primary point I want to emphasize is that a significant part of the incident was my own mistake.

“Cold tires played a role, and though I’ve taken that exit curb countless times over the weekend, perhaps it wasn’t necessary this time.”

Piastri hinted that adapting to F1’s new rules contributed to the mishap, yet affirmed there was no mechanical issue with the vehicle.

“The challenging aspect is accepting that everything was functioning as it should,” Piastri noted.

‘I was backwards before I’d really even had a chance to react. It happened pretty quick.

‘But obviously crashing out of the race trying to get to the race is the situation that we were in.’
