A babysitter has been charged with shoving an 18-month-old baby into a crib face-first, causing multiple injuries, including two collapsed lungs.

Police in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, said that they were called to Wayne County Memorial Hospital on March 1 for the baby, who had broken and fractured ribs and bruising to the face, according to PAHomePage.com.

The mother said she’d gotten a call from her babysitter, identified as 19-year-old Kassius Lovett Grant, telling her the child had fallen and injured his face and was going to the hospital.

Investigators say they found Grant hiding in a closet in a home in Carbondale and took him for an interview. He reportedly admitted he was smoking marijuana in the apartment, and the toddler kept coming into the room. He said he didn’t want the child there while he was smoking, so he pushed the toddler from behind into the crib.

The child was still in the hospital a week later, when Grant was arrested, with fractured and broken ribs, an injury to the back, two collapsed lungs, a gash on the back of the neck and swelling and bruises on the face.

Grant was charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was being held in the Lackawanna County Prison on a $400,000 bond.
