Body Found in San Francisco Bay After Fatal Boating Incident

A grim discovery in San Francisco Bay has brought renewed focus to a deadly boating tragedy that has already left two people dead and two others missing.

San Francisco police said officers with the department’s marine unit spotted a body in the water around 10 a.m. Saturday, west of the Golden Gate Bridge near Point Diablo.

The body was recovered from the bay and turned over to the San Francisco medical examiner, who will determine the person’s identity and notify relatives.

Officials have not released any further information about the recovery.

The discovery came nearly two weeks after a vessel capsized near Alcatraz Island, killing two people and leaving two others unaccounted for. Sixteen people were rescued after the incident.

Authorities said 20 people were aboard the boat, named Volare, for a memorial service when it overturned on July 14.

A 79-year-old man died at the scene, while the body of a 58-year-old woman was recovered two days later near Treasure Island.

Search crews located the wreckage of the vessel three days after the disaster, but two people remained missing.

Officials have not linked the Alcatraz incident with the discovered body on Saturday.

This is a developing story.
