Bronx man accused of chopping off dog owner’s fingers with machete arrested in Queens hit-and-run

An unstable man from the Bronx, previously arrested for severing a dog owner’s fingers with a machete, was arrested again on Thursday. This time he was charged for a fatal incident involving his motorcycle in Queens last year, authorities reported.

Timothy Bohler, 31, was riding a 2023 Jiajue motorcycle on March 22, 2024, at around 8:30 p.m., heading south on 114 St. and Liberty Ave. in South Richmond Hill. He collided with Lelawattie Narine, 52, who was standing on the road near a corner, according to police.

Bohler and Narine both fell onto the street, after which Bohler abandoned his motorcycle and fled the scene on foot.

Narine, residing just a few blocks from where the accident occurred, sustained a critical head trauma. Emergency services rushed her to Jamaica Hospital in a critical state.

Narine spent more than two weeks in the hospital before she died of her injuries on April 9, 2024.

Bohler, residing in the Bronx, faced charges at his arraignment in Queens for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, aggravated unlicensed operation, and driving an unregistered vehicle, among additional charges tied to the fatal crash.

He was detained with a bail set at $50,000 cash, a $100,000 insured bond, and a partially secured surety bond. His subsequent court appearance is slated for November 20.

Bohler has 20 prior arrests, cops said.

Rakeem Tayquon Young, 34, FaceTimed with his dog Chanel from his hospital bed while recovering from surgery in January. Four of Young’s fingers were chopped off by a machete-wielding attacker in the Bronx after Young instinctively tried to shield his beloved pooch from the blade.

Earlier this year, on January 24, Bohler was accused of swinging a machete and severing four of a dog’s owner’s fingers during a daylight altercation over a barking dog.

Rakeem Tayquon Young, 34, was walking his dog, Chanel, near Southern Blvd. and E. 178th St. in East Tremont around 11:20 a.m. when Bohler, also accompanied by a pooch, approached him. As things escalated, Bohler yanked out a machete, intending to chop at Young’s dog — but the victim bravely stepped in to protect his pooch, cops said.

“He was, like, ‘Yo, get your dog. I’m [going to] chop her head off,’” Young told the Daily News from his hospital bed while recovering after the harrowing attack. “And then the dude just swung the knife at me for no apparent reason. I remember lifting my hand saying, ‘No! No!’”

As Young raised his hand to shield Chanel’s head from the massive blade, the attacker sliced off the fingers of his left hand.

In shock, Young first tried to chase after the attacker before realizing he should stop into a bodega to get help.

“I’m running down the street and missing the fingers,” Young said. “When he first initially swung the [machete] I did look and see that my fingers was gone. After that I could not look no more.”

Emergency workers recovered three of his four missing fingers but the fourth was lost to the city streets in the chaos, prompting a desperate search, his mother Kimtreese Young said.

Medics took Young to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he underwent a 13-hour surgery to reattach his digits, after which he was transferred to Bellevue Hospital to recover.

Police tracked down Bohler weeks later, arresting him on Feb. 3 and charging him with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted assault. His next court date for this case is scheduled for Oct. 21.
