This holiday season, NBC is set to delight audiences with two airings of the timeless classic, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

WASHINGTON — NBC will once again host the cherished holiday special “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” which first graced the network’s screens back in 1964. The animated gem is scheduled to air on Friday, December 5, marking its second consecutive year back on NBC after decades on CBS.

Originally debuting on NBC on December 6, 1964, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” spent over 50 years being broadcast by CBS. Its return to NBC in 2024 has been a nostalgic homecoming for many viewers.

The beloved story follows Rudolph, a reindeer ostracized due to his glowing red nose. On his journey, he encounters memorable characters such as Hermey the elf, Yukon Cornelius, and the Misfit Toys, all while dodging the formidable Abominable Snow Monster.

In addition to “Rudolph,” NBC’s holiday lineup will feature other animated classics like “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Frosty the Snowman.”

“These holiday events and specials unite audiences in a way that few things can,” commented Jen Neal, NBCUniversal Entertainment’s Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials. “NBC is your destination for heartwarming traditions, joyful celebrations, and unforgettable moments.”

How to watch “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” on NBC

The beloved Rankin-Bass stop-motion special will air on NBC Friday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. ET. An encore presentation will show Thursday, Dec. 11.
