Costco is giving Halloween shoppers a frightening new reason to hesitate: a massive candy creation with an equally massive price tag and calorie count.
The warehouse retailer is offering a 5.5-pound Monster Mash Chocolate Head, made by Ten Acre Gifts, a giant Belgian chocolate treat packed with 64 gummy candies molded into gruesome body parts.
The chocolate portion alone contains an estimated 10,650 calories, calculated from 71 servings at 150 calories each. The gummies add roughly 1,600 more, taking the total to about 12,250 calories.
The Halloween centerpiece also contains an astonishing 1,591 grams of sugar—1,207 grams from the chocolate and another 384 grams from the gummies. Costco lists the item at $54.99.
Despite its steep cost and extraordinary nutrition figures, the novelty dessert has become difficult to track down. Shoppers are calling Costco warehouses, searching Instacart and checking resale platforms in hopes of getting their hands on one.
One Reddit user said they had contacted Costco locations across several areas but could not find the chocolate monster head. Another reported that an Instacart order was refunded after the store failed to locate the product.
One commenter advised shoppers to use Costco item number 2056395 when asking about the treat, noting that some warehouses may not have it cataloged under “Frankenstein.” Another shopper suggested that certain stores were still waiting for their shipments.
The limited availability has also sparked a scramble over pricing. A Facebook user said they paid $49.99 at a Costco in Fort Worth, Texas, while listings online have reportedly topped $60—and reached as much as $100 on eBay.

For shoppers still searching, the hunt has become increasingly frustrating. “Can’t find in SoCal,” one Facebook commenter wrote.
“I was there today and didn’t see this,” another person posted. A third shopper said their Costco had skipped Halloween displays entirely and was already preparing for Christmas.
The oversized confection weighs about 5.5 pounds, most of it made up of the chocolate shell, with more than a pound of gummy candy tucked inside.
It also offers a more hands-on Halloween experience than ordinary candy. Instead of merely unwrapping the treat, shoppers receive a mallet to smash open the chocolate monster’s head and uncover the candy within.
Made entirely with Belgian chocolate, the green-and-brown design resembles Frankenstein’s monster, featuring familiar bolts, stitches and a menacing expression.
A 28-gram serving of chocolate contains 150 calories, 17 grams of carbohydrates, 17 grams of sugar, 8 grams of fat and 5 grams of saturated fat. Each serving of gummies contributes an additional 25 calories and 6 grams of sugar.
The unusual Halloween treat has quickly spread across social media, prompting a split reaction among shoppers. Some view it as the season’s ultimate party centerpiece, while others see little more than an overpriced novelty.
One Facebook user dismissed the idea entirely, writing: “Frankenstein mold. Coat with chocolate add a bag of candy. $15.”
Others have embraced the spectacle. One shopper said they would purchase the chocolate head simply to display it as a Halloween decoration, even without eating it.

Would you spend $54.99 on this giant Halloween candy treat, or is it an unhealthy and overpriced gimmick?

Despite the hefty price and nutritional figures, the novelty Halloween treat is proving surprisingly difficult to find among Costco shoppers
Another shopper initially thought the product was a plastic decoration, while someone else said: ‘Only worth it if it is solid.’
On X, one person joked: ‘Costco looked at Halloween and said, ‘What if a piñata… but medically concerning?’
Another declared: ‘This is now a priority need in my life…’
Someone else summed up the bizarre appeal by writing: ‘Imagine explaining to someone that your Halloween candy comes with its own demolition tool.’
The mallet has become one of the biggest talking points, with another shopper joking: ‘A hammer for Halloween candy is insane.’
And while some shoppers are focused on smashing and eating the thing, others are questioning whether anyone really needs a five-pound chocolate head in their kitchen.
For those willing to pay the price, however, Costco is offering a Halloween party centerpiece, a mountain of candy and a demolition project rolled into one – just don’t expect this monster to be remotely fun-size.
