A mayor from Florida recounted in court how his 34-year-old former partner allegedly assaulted him, hurling him to the ground outside his opulent $1 million pink residence.
Fort Lauderdale’s Mayor, Dean Trantalis, aged 72, gave his testimony remotely to a court in Broward County, accusing his ex-partner, Daniel Curran, of the attack.
Curran was apprehended on Wednesday and faces charges for breaching a domestic violence injunction and for assaulting an individual aged 65 or older.
Several months back, Trantalis had secured the injunction, describing their relationship to the judge as a ‘very complicated situation’.
Trantalis, who is affiliated with the Democratic Party, explained that at the time of the incident, he and Curran were in the process of reconnecting. His goal was to assist ‘rehabilitate Danny’ and encourage him towards counseling and mental health support.
‘And I failed at that,’ Trantalis confessed to the judge. ‘Ultimately, this past weekend, he threw me to the ground. He committed all the acts described in the information regarding the violence against me, and it dawned on me that there was no future for this relationship.’
The couple began dating in March and had previously lived together, the police report said.
On Saturday, Curran allegedly pushed the mayor ‘with both hands,’ causing Trantalis to attempt to ‘fight him off’ at his home, the arrest report stated.

Trantalis, a Democrat, said he and Curran had a ‘complicated’ relationship and were reconnecting at the time of the alleged attack
In the commotion, Curran grabbed Trantalis by the leg and pulled him to the ground, dragging him approximately 15 feet across the road according to an arrest report.
Trantalis suffered injuries to his wrist, left leg, and right knee, according to Local 10 News.
Curran was arrested and the judge set his bond at $6,000 for contempt of court and for the battery charge.
He has also been ordered to not contact the politician and to not return to Trantalis’ home. He also cannot have firearms, weapons, or ammunition but has paid his bond.
The Broward County District Attorney’s Office has requested the State Attorney’s Office move the case to another jurisdiction, as Fort Lauderdale is in the county.
Curran goes by DannyTrantalis on Instagram and referred to himself as the ‘first gentleman’ of Fort Lauderdale.
