NEWINGTON, Ga. () – The individual sought in relation to a deadly shooting in Screven County last April was taken into custody on Wednesday, as reported by the Screven County Sheriff’s Office.

Demarion Butler, 19, was detained on May 7 under an outstanding Murder warrant for the shooting of 22-year-old Isaiah Barbee on April 7, a month prior.

The U.S. Marshals Service joined the pursuit on Friday, May 2, with assistance from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office in Rincon, Ga. Butler managed to escape and was last observed running on foot along West 7th Street near Stokes Avenue within Rincon’s city limits. The Rincon Police Department informed residents on Friday night that Butler was wanted and should be considered armed and dangerous.

A spokesperson for Screven County Sheriff’s Office said that Barbee’s arrest after being on the run for a month was due to the hard work and cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies, including local agencies and the U.S. Marshals Service.
