Scandal-hit US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has been pushed out of President Donald Trump’s inner circle, confirming her resignation Tuesday after a remarkably swift fall from favor.
As her diplomatic career unraveled, three sources said Guilfoyle had privately acknowledged that “she’s done” shortly before her departure was confirmed.
Insiders said the ambassador is now largely confined to the official diplomatic residence in Athens, amid growing paranoia surrounding her removal.
One source said a distressed Guilfoyle, making desperate phone calls to contacts in the US in recent days, complained: “I have no one that I can trust over here.”
At the embassy late Tuesday, after her resignation, the entrance remained tightly sealed and almost deserted. Only three working headlights mounted on the whitewashed walls illuminated the site.
Two security guards remained stationed at the main entrance. At approximately 7.07pm local time, a BMW Jeep entered the compound, followed by a second vehicle.
One of the US embassy’s longest-serving employees told Our News Outlet that Guilfoyle’s rapid downfall was “unprecedented.”
“We have never seen such a violent beheading of the mission. These pushouts or terminations usually happen quietly. This was abrupt. But was it really an ending?”
The staffer added: “She had a cocky and brash air about her. As time passed, it became increasingly unrestrained.”
Guilfoyle’s most public humiliation came when Trump’s new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, disclosed that the ambassador had been asked to resign. The announcement followed the president’s statement that he was “not happy” with negative reports about Guilfoyle’s lavish lifestyle.

Our News Outlet reported exclusively last week that the State Department had opened an investigation into complaints about her allegedly “tyrannical” leadership and lavish corporate perks at the US Embassy in Athens.
The 57-year-old ambassador’s ethics troubles have continued to mount. Our News Outlet can now exclusively reveal further details about Guilfoyle’s opaque personal finances.
In mid-2025, as she was reportedly trying to settle substantial American Express credit card bills before beginning her ambassadorship, Guilfoyle sought a $250,000 car-loan payment from several wealthy Greek businessmen, according to four Greek and State Department insiders with direct knowledge of the matter.
The businessmen were approached for help paying off her luxury Mercedes G-Wagon, the sources told Our News Outlet.
According to the sources, Guilfoyle did not ultimately receive the money she had sought.
Outstanding debts can become a concern during the vetting process for ambassadorial nominees.
Guilfoyle’s mandatory federal financial disclosure forms make no mention of the vehicle.
But a loan for a boat advance is listed on the liabilities section of her report for $100,000 – $250,000. The creditor is listed as Azure funding, a financial services firm that specializes in marine and aviation financing.
The approach for the G-Wagon solicitation mirrors revelations by the Wall Street Journal, which obtained text messages showing Guilfoyle asking a Trump supporter to settle a $100,000 American Express bill just before her Senate confirmation hearing, while dangling promise of access to the administration.
Her lawyer has denied all allegations of wrongdoing regarding the Wall Street Journal’s report.

The empty front of the US Embassy in Athens, Greece, after Guilfoyle’s resignation

The scandal-plagued US Ambassador to Greece is being tossed out of the administration altogether, as Press Secretary Katie Zacharia revealed to Our News Outlet that Guilfoyle has been asked to resign
Guilfoyle’s team and the State Department did not respond to requests for comment and the White House referred Our News Outlet to Trump’s Monday comment saying he wasn’t happy with the situation.
He then asked for her resignation.
The State Department Office of Inspector General investigation Our News Outlet exclusively reported will get fresh momentum as more people may feel emboldened to come forward now that she is leaving her post.
Guilfoyle’s standing rapidly collapsed in the Mediterranean capital.

Greek government officials were flatly refusing to hold meetings with her, the sources said, immediately before her ouster.
The institutional breakdown was laid bare during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Athens last week, where four insiders reveal that Guilfoyle was explicitly barred from attending a pivotal one-on-one meeting between Rubio and the Greek Prime Minister.
To make matters worse Guilfoyle’s key local ally, Alexandros Exarchou, the powerful Chairman and Group CEO of AKTOR Group, was also personally barred from attending the official state dinner with Rubio due to guidance from higher ups at the State Department.
Exarchou was left fuming, according to a Greek official briefed on the dinner.
Reports previously revealed Guilfoyle had used her position to aggressively promote the business interests of Exarchou’s construction and energy giant, even allowing his company’s lobbyist into private diplomatic sessions and telling reception guests that the US could undercut the Greek government if it chose to.

Rubio reportedly became increasingly furious as fresh allegations emerged during his visit to Athens last week, where Guilfoyle greeted him with a bear hug

Guilfoyle’s downfall was complete on Tuesday as she announced her departure from her job
Despite the warm embrace Guilfoyle gave Rubio when he landed, two sources told Our News Outlet he was ‘completely standoffish’ with her at the dinner.
Another source said Guilfoyle played her last card with Rubio when the WSJ broke the story about her nefarious dealings.
‘She was all over him, obsessive,’ the source said. ‘Perhaps the most telling moment was her last moments with him when she gave him a massive bear hug ringing to everyone in the know “save me please.”’
Her isolation is largely self-inflicted.
This spring she fired a veteran Greek economic adviser who had served several ambassadors and held much of the embassy’s institutional memory, leaving staff bewildered.
In a frantic last-ditch effort to signal she still wields power in Washington, Guilfoyle had been insisting to Athens contacts that there will be an official state visit to Greece from Vice President JD Vance in February.

Vance’s team told Our News Outlet it has no 2027 travel plans to announce at this time.
When questioned directly about the mounting scandal last week, Vance claimed the reports of her soliciting payments were ‘hypothetical,’ but added that he did not love the storyline.
Two US officials grimly noted that Guilfoyle is clinging to her post simply because she has nowhere else to go.
The fast-moving scandal adds to a long list of embarrassments that have trailed Guilfoyle since taking the post, including extensive Our News Outlet reporting revealing her demands for free dinners and Champagne, reckless staff firings, a formal State Department Internal Investigation, as well as leaked text messages detailing a bitter breakup with Donald Trump Jr.
Democrats have demanded criminal and ethics investigations, which will gain more currency if they take back the House or Senate in less than a month.
Guilfoyle has not addressed the allegations directly.

Prior reporting by Our News Outlet revealed a formal Department of State Inspector General probe has been opened into Guilfoyle, 57, and her US embassy in Athens, following complaints
In a statement posted to X announcing her resignation, Guilfoyle insisted the allegations against her are ‘false,’ and vowed to ‘vigorously defend’ her name and reputation as her time as US Ambassador to Greece comes to an end.
‘I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service,’ Guilfoyle wrote. ‘While my time as Ambassador may be coming to an end, my commitment to President Trump, the America First movement, and the country I love will never end.’
Her legal counsel insists she has done nothing wrong as the US Embassy in Athens has offered tacit public support.
Our News Outlet has reached out to her counsel for response.
But as one US official put it, ‘Nobody in the US wants her back.’
