US and Iran ‘close to agreement to end war’
Good morning and welcome to our ongoing live coverage of developments in the Iran conflict. Reports suggest that Washington and Tehran are on the brink of reaching an agreement that could bring an end to the hostilities.
Various media sources indicate that the United States and Iran are close to finalizing a one-page memorandum. A source from Pakistan, who is intimately involved in the negotiations, conveyed optimism, stating, “We are on the verge of concluding this. We’re getting very close.”
These developments come shortly after former President Donald Trump announced a halt to ‘Project Freedom.’ This initiative, launched on Monday, aimed to assist ships in navigating through the obstructed strait.
The operation, however, did not succeed in significantly restoring traffic through the strait. Instead, it incited a series of Iranian attacks on vessels in the waterway and on various targets in neighboring regions.
In a recent incident, a French shipping company disclosed on Wednesday that one of its container ships was hit in the strait on the previous day, resulting in injuries and necessitating the evacuation of crew members.
