Festive joy filled the air at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago as a crowd came together to support a heartwarming cause. The event aimed to uplift spirits and make a tangible difference in lives.

This Sunday marked the 22nd anniversary of Sweet Home Chicago, an annual fundraiser dedicated to collecting substantial funds for WINGS. This nonprofit plays a crucial role in offering emergency shelters and comprehensive services to those escaping domestic violence.

The proceeds from this year’s event were directed towards supporting the vital operations of WINGS’ two main safe houses.

Attendees embraced the holiday season by enjoying moments with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Children engaged in delightful activities, crafting gingerbread houses, making ornaments, and enjoying the harmonious sounds of Christmas carolers.

Even service dogs were on site, offering comfort and a soothing presence to all who attended.

The CEO of WINGS, along with the event’s co-chair, say they are so grateful for the public’s generosity.

“We’re the only ones in Illinois who have two safe houses. It’s still not enough, but we are doing what we can. And everyone who comes here today to have fun, while they are having fun, they are helping people in distress to not stay in that situation,” said WINGS CEO Rebecca Darr.

“It really is remarkable. It’s something you can’t even explain, because it’s just that good, you know? One event, and all these people coming together for a good cause,” said Sweet Home Chicago Co-Chair Shea Mausser.

Sweet Home Chicago is a family tradition for many of the guests.

ABC7 spoke with some of the youngest attendees about what they look forward to most each year.

“It’s a great way to get in the Christmas spirit. I always remember coming and making the gingerbread houses,” said guest Jeffrey Podjasek.

“I feel like kind of like the scene and the setting, the carolers and all that,” said guest Carmella Lupo. “I really like to make the little jingle, or like the ornaments.”

Just this year alone, well over $720,000 was raised, bringing the grand total collected to more than $14 million since the event’s launch back in 2004. And it is all supporting WINGS and its mission to fight domestic violence.
