A shocking incident unfolded in Cornelius, Oregon, when a man allegedly set off a bomb at an apartment after discovering his former girlfriend was involved with someone else. The suspect, 37-year-old Samuel Christian Lund, now faces a multitude of serious charges.

Lund has been charged with five counts of attempted murder, along with four counts of unlawful use of a weapon. Additionally, he faces two counts of unlawful manufacture of a destructive device, as well as individual charges of first-degree arson and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to court documents.

The explosive incident took place on October 6 in an apartment located in the 200 block of North 10th Street, a detail confirmed by a probable cause arrest affidavit. This area is part of Cornelius, a suburb to the west of Portland. As reported by local ABC affiliate KATU, a man residing at the apartment recounted opening his door around 4 a.m. to find a man clad entirely in black. He quickly shut the door and then heard a distinctive “tink, tink, tink” noise from outside, immediately followed by a blast that scattered debris everywhere. The affidavit also noted that shots were fired into the door during this commotion.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect leaving the scene on an e-bike, yet fortunately, no injuries were reported in the aftermath of the attack.

The day before the incident, a woman informed police that her ex-boyfriend, Lund, had been sending her menacing text messages. These threatening communications were sparked by Lund’s discovery that she was “hooking up” with another man. The texts allegedly included alarming statements such as, “you f—ing turn around and spit in my face…I’m coming for you…I know where you’re at right now…you might as well just f—ing come outside…I’ll be there shortly.”

The messages reportedly said “you f—ing turn around and spit in my face…I’m coming for you…I know where you’re at right now…you might as well just f—ing come outside…I’ll be there shortly.”

The woman also said Lund owned an e-bike.

When cops confronted Lund, he reportedly admitted to sending the messages but claimed he didn’t detonate the bomb. However, he did say he had experience with explosives and had a bomb in his backpack in his garage, the affidavit reportedly said.

Lund is currently in the Washington County Jail without bond. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 17.

The defendant previously served five years in prison for stabbing someone outside a grocery store in 2018, per KATU.
