Connecticut man accused of trying to kill ex-wife nabbed at the Canadian border

A Connecticut man found himself in legal hot water after allegedly staging a harrowing attack on his ex-wife, culminating in a desperate attempt to flee to Canada. Joao Victor Borges De Queiroz, aged 33, reportedly concealed himself in the trunk of his ex-wife’s car and launched a chilling attack while she was en route to work.

According to the Bridgeport Police Department, Borges De Queiroz made his presence known by pushing down the backseat and firing a shot at the woman, narrowly missing her as the bullet pierced through the windshield. The terrifying ordeal unfolded as the 33-year-old woman bravely maneuvered her vehicle amid the chaos of the attack.

In a post shared on Facebook, the police detailed the sequence of events, revealing that after the gunshot, the suspect allegedly attempted to choke his ex-wife from behind. Despite the dire circumstances, she managed to wrestle the gun from him and toss it out of the window, demonstrating remarkable courage and presence of mind.

Not deterred by the loss of the weapon, Borges De Queiroz allegedly continued his assault as the woman fought to escape the confines of the car. Her struggle ended at the intersection of Orange St. and Central Ave., where she was able to break free and seek refuge at a nearby home to summon help.

Authorities swiftly responded, recovering the discarded firearm and securing video evidence of the incident, much of which had been captured on camera. The suspect’s attempted flight to Canada was ultimately thwarted by law enforcement, bringing a dramatic close to an unsettling chapter.

Responding officers recovered the gun as well as video evidence of the encounter, much of which was recorded.

Less than 24 hours later, Borges De Queiroz was stopped by Canadian cops near the border with Vermont and handed over to U.S. Border Patrol, who took him into custody on a warrant issued by Bridgeport police.

Charges against the suspect include attempted murder, stalking, assault and first-degree kidnapping with a firearm. He will also face a charge for carrying a pistol without a permit.

Borges De Queiroz was being held by police in Vermont before he’s extradited back to Connecticut for arraignment. His bond was set at $1 million.
