GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nathan Charles Homstad, 41, was arrested yesterday and charged with trespassing and providing false identification information after he allegedly gave a fake name, date of birth, and Norwegian passport number to an officer.
A Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officer responded to a vacant apartment at The Ridge on 34th (500 SW 34th Street), where he reportedly found Homstad. Homstad reportedly said he found the door unlocked and thought he could spend the night. Homstad allegedly provided the name of Omar Thor Overhalla, said he was a Norwegian citizen, and provided paperwork with that name and a date of birth that would make him 45 years old.
GPD contacted the Norwegian Embassy and learned that no record existed for the name, date of birth, or passport number provided by Homstad. The FBI reportedly provided his true name and date of birth after GPD sent his fingerprints; Homstad also reportedly has an active warrant out of Minnesota.
Homstad has no criminal history; Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $20,000.
