A 69-year-old Florida man allegedly murdered his wife’s lover after an argument in a flea market parking lot led to a fatal shooting.

Omar Rene Aguila stands accused of second-degree murder in the shooting that occurred on July 12 at the Northside Shopping Center in Miami.

The Miami Herald acquired a probable cause arrest affidavit revealing that Aguila’s wife commenced an affair with the victim in 2019. Aguila found out about this relationship in April 2024 and demanded that she stop seeing the other man. Despite the warning, two days prior to the shooting, the victim reportedly visited Aguila and his wife’s residence, leading to a confrontation between Aguila and the victim.

On the day of the incident, while Aguila was at the flea market with his wife and son, the victim allegedly came by to deliver food to a friend. He attempted to engage Aguila’s wife in conversation before departing. The affidavit notes that Aguila then approached the victim’s vehicle, which resulted in an argument between the two men.

Within seconds, Aguila reportedly pulled out a gun and shot the man several times. Surveillance video allegedly captured the shooting, detectives reportedly noted.

Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The victim’s name has not been publicly released.

Cops reportedly let Aguila go following the shooting because he claimed self-defense and said the victim had a gun in his car. But detectives allegedly determined the victim was never armed. Aguila also is a convicted felon and is prohibited from having a gun, cops say. In addition to murder, he is also facing a felon in possession of a firearm charge.

Aguila was arrested on Thursday. He remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. His next court date is scheduled for Monday.
