Man gets light sentence after Florida girl hurled into car and raped

A Florida man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after prosecutors said he enticed a 13-year-old girl into buying him food, forced her into his car and sexually assaulted her for hours while recording the attack.

Bryan Oyanguren Rosado, 25, received the sentence last week after pleading guilty in the kidnapping and rape of the girl in Temple Terrace.

Had the case gone to trial and ended in conviction, Rosado faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 330 years behind bars. Instead, a plea agreement reduced his punishment to 25 years in state prison.

‘Quite candidly, in my unit’s review, the number probably should have been higher than this,’ Assistant State Attorney Joseph Kudia, who works in the office’s special victims unit, said, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The attack began in a parking lot at the Doral Oaks apartment complex, where authorities said Rosado targeted the child.

Police said Rosado approached a group of children and offered them $20 to bring him food from a nearby Burger King. Most of the children refused, but the 13-year-old agreed to the request.

She returned with the food shortly before 6 p.m. and passed it to Rosado through the window of his car, the outlet reported.

Court records cited by the Tampa Bay Times say Rosado initially drove toward the exit, then turned back, pulled up beside the girl, covered her mouth with his hand and forced her into the passenger seat.

The young girl returned around three hours later and recalled a horrific sequence of events to law enforcement.

According to the outlet, she told police that as he sped away, she had rolled down the window and yelled for help. Rosado pulled over and ordered her to stop screaming before she tried to jump out of the car.

She was pulled back into the car by her jacket and he locked the doors and windows, the girl recalled, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

After he drove her to a construction site near Temple Terrace Highway, he parked and took off his pants.

According to the arrest report obtained by the outlet, Rosado raped her in three ways and said he would drive her back to Doral Oaks if she promised not to tell anyone about the incident.

As he drove her back, however, police had been called after people had heard the girl screaming for help hours ago and the area was overrun with officers.

He instead drove her to a nearby office parking lot and let her out, the outlet reported.

A tip eventually led police to Rosado and he was arrested on March 4.

On Rosado’s phone, police discovered a series of disturbing videos reportedly depicting the rape. In addition to the 20 videos of the incident, police found 60 other images and videos of child sex abuse material, prosecutors said.

In court, Hillsborough Circuit Judge Mark Kiser asked about the low sentencing and whether the victim approved.

Kudia said she was and noted the ‘mental and emotional anguish’ of having to testify at trial, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

‘That’s why it’s so low?’ Kiser asked, according to the outlet.

‘I wouldn’t say it’s low. Comparatively, it could be higher,’ Kudia reportedly answered.

In a statement to Our News Outlet, the Hillsborough Office of the State Attorney said: ‘At the center of this case is a 13-year-old girl who has already been through more than any child should ever have to endure. Her family did not want her to have to sit for a deposition or go through a trial and relive the trauma of what occurred.

‘After the plea, she was able to start school this week and focus on being a kid, not on a court case. They are satisfied with the sentence, and their wishes mattered to us. Crime victims deserve to be heard. Their voices matter in the pursuit of justice and listening to them is a part of every decision we make.’

The Office of the State Attorney noted that Rosado’s sentence will be followed by 15 years of probation and he will be designated as a sexual predator for life.

Before he entered his guilty plea, Rosado asked to send a letter ‘for the victim’s family’s benefit,’ the outlet reported.

‘Just to show my remorse. To just allow them to know that I feel like that’s something they deserve at least,’ he added.

Rosado faced life in prison if convicted, and the 25-year deal was the best he would get, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The Daily Mail reached out to Assistant State Attorney Joseph Kudia through the Hillsborough Office of the State Attorney and the Temple Terrace Police Department.
