Married Christian lawmaker's response for fondling a woman

In a twist of controversy, Nebraska State Senator Dan McKeon, facing allegations of inappropriate conduct, has staunchly defended his reputation as a committed family man and devout Christian. Known by the moniker ‘Dirty Dan,’ McKeon attributes this nickname to his agricultural background rather than any misconduct.

McKeon, a 59-year-old representative from Amherst, found himself under scrutiny following accusations that he groped a woman at a social event. Details of the incident surfaced alongside an awkward note he allegedly sent to the woman involved.

According to the Nebraska Examiner, McKeon was cited on Thursday for allegedly touching a woman’s buttocks at a gathering in the Lincoln Country Club earlier this year in May. Following an inquiry by the Nebraska State Patrol, he was issued a public indecency citation, marking it as a Class II misdemeanor.

The allegations have prompted widespread calls for McKeon’s resignation, with Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen publicly denouncing the senator’s conduct as ‘unacceptable,’ as reported by KETV News.

In response, one of McKeon’s legal representatives released a statement portraying him as a ‘devoted husband, father of four, and proud Christian,’ emphasizing his roles as a coach, farming consultant, and public servant with ‘the highest integrity.’ The statement vehemently denies any involvement in public indecency, suggesting that the accusations are politically motivated and aimed at advancing the interests of other politicians.

One of McKeon’s attorneys issued a statement describing him as a ‘devoted husband, father of four, proud Christian, coach, farming consultant and public servant of the “highest integrity.”‘ The statement insisted that McKeon has never engaged in ‘public indecency’ or similar wrongdoing and claimed the accusations are ‘politically motivated’ for the benefit of other elected officials.

His attorney also defended his longtime nickname, ‘Dirty Dan,’ saying it had been distorted and actually came from his past as a ‘grain-farming consultant.’

‘He has for decades said he is “proud to have dirt on my boots, because keeping my feet on the ground and being humble to my farmer roots keeps me grounded,”‘ McKeon’s attorney wrote, according to the outlet.

‘That nickname – rooted in humility and work ethic – is now being mischaracterized by extreme liberal voices for partisan purposes,’ he added.

McKeon’s cries of innocence grew louder this week after he blamed his ‘sense of humor’ and ‘alcohol consumption’ in Tuesday statement.

Also on Tuesday, an apology note McKeon allegedly wrote to the victim on July 28 was made public, according to KLKN News.

In the note, the senator apologized for his actions that had ‘offended’ the woman while insisting the incident was meant as harmless fun.

‘I was saying it in a joking manner, and I know that alcohol had some influence, but that’s no excuse,’ McKeon allegedly wrote, according to the outlet.

‘The Lord knows we are all sinners, and we make mistakes,’ the note continued. ‘I will learn from this going forward as a freshman Senator in the Nebraska State Legislature.’

McKeon also allegedly included a Bible verse, Colossians 3:13-15, which offers guidance on how Christians should live in community, emphasizing forgiveness and harmony with others.

The alleged note ended with McKeon expressing hope that the woman would accept his apology, followed by well wishes that her ‘summer is going well.’

McKeon issued his most recent statement after the governor’s remarks at a press conference, where Pillen said: ‘This is a serious offense. I called the senator on Friday evening and asked for his resignation.’

In a subsequent press release, McKeon said: ‘I have taken responsibility for attempting humor in the wrong moment and tone. I am sorry for that. But I did not engage in sexual misconduct, much less public lewd fondling or caressing.’

He claimed that, ‘most of my constituents enjoy my sense of humor,’ and described the governor’s demand for his resignation as ‘unfair and frankly inappropriate.’

‘I apologized for my joke and a pat on the back, but I will NOT resign,’ McKeon said in his Tuesday statement.

‘I answer to God, my family and the voters of my community, and they will decide my future, not extreme liberals trying to manipulate the public with Facebook ads, or other political opportunists,’ he added.

‘I expect all Nebraskans who believe in the Constitution and rule of law to continue their support.’

As of Monday evening, Gov Pillen had not received a resignation letter, according to KETV.
