How to be a modern gentleman in 39 steps

If you believe that simply holding a door open qualifies you as the perfect gentleman, you might want to expand your understanding.

In fact, there are 39 guidelines to follow if you aim to embody the modern man of honor.

For instance, a true gentleman uses moisturiser but avoids hair gel, and he firmly believes that Roger Moore was the ultimate James Bond.

It’s considered unbecoming for him to drive a Tesla, refer to a woman as ‘babe,’ or drink directly from a bottle.

This collection of gentlemanly dos and don’ts has been curated by etiquette expert William Hanson and is featured in the latest edition of Country Life magazine.

Mark Hedges, the editor-in-chief, describes it as “a playful exploration of what it means to be a gentleman in 2025.”
