The latest Mega Millions jackpot reached a staggering $680 million, making it the ninth-largest in the game’s history.

WASHINGTON — On Friday night, hopeful participants vied for a colossal $680 million jackpot in the Mega Millions lottery, marking a significant milestone as the ninth-largest prize since the game’s inception.

Details about whether anyone clinched the grand prize were not immediately available.

This massive jackpot emerged after the previous drawing on Tuesday concluded without a winner.

Should there be no winner on Friday, the streak would extend to 35 draws without a jackpot victor, the longest since a $348 million prize was claimed in Virginia on June 27. This current prize ascends to the ninth-largest in Mega Millions history, a game that has captivated players since its 2002 launch.

The jackpot has surged considerably following Mega Millions’ decision to increase ticket prices from $2 to $5 in April 2025. This change has not only swelled the prize amounts but also improved winning odds. Players now face odds of one in 290,472,336 to win the grand prize, a slight improvement from the previous odds of one in 302,575,350, due to a reduction in the Mega Ball pool from 25 to 24 numbers.
