Tomas Soucek’s second-half goal ensured West Ham overcame a tough test in the Carabao Cup third round at Lincoln with a 1-0 victory.

This was nothing other than ‘job done’ for the Hammers as Soucek’s 70th-minute strike from a corner booked their place in the next round.

Boss David Moyes made a host of changes to his side but Soucek was one of his Premier League starters who was involved and that proved vital while goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski also made a number of good saves.

West Ham were able to see it out to make it through to the fourth round for the fourth successive year.

Fulham 2-1 Norwich

Marco Silva’s side had too much on the night for the Championship visitors as goals from Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi were enough to take them forward in the competition.

Fulham dominated for large parts of the game as the hosts enjoyed 70 per cent possession and were perhaps left frustrated after a lack of accuracy resulted in only three out of 17 shots going on-target.

Norwich substitute Borja Sainz threatened a comeback for the visitors but it was too little too late as David Wagner’s side crashed out the League Cup.

West Ham will play Arsenal in the next round.

Bournemouth 2-0 Stoke City

The Cherries have struggled in the opening weeks of the new Premier League season but kept their Carabao Cup hopes well and truly alive.

Two goals within three minutes of each other set Andoni Iraola’s side on the way to victory as Bournemouth ran out deserved winners at the Vitality Stadium.

Stoke failed to put up much of a fight with their focus largely on improving their torrid Championship form rather than a cup competition usually dominated by Premier League teams.

Dominic Solanke and Joe Rothwell scored but a tougher test awaits against Liverpool in the next round.

Blackburn 5-2 Cardiff City

A seven-goal thriller was played out between the two Championship clubs that eventually saw the hosts emerge on top during a match of madness at Ewood Park.

Jake Garrett’s opening goal was quickly cancelled out by Cardiff midfielder Callum Robinson. Arnor Sigurdsson again had the hosts back in control before Kion Etete struck an equaliser at the end of the first-half.

Andrew Moran put parity between the two teams with a quick-fire brace at the start of the second-half as Dilan Markanday rolled in Blackburn’s fifth goal of the game late on.

Blackburn will travel to Chelsea in the next round.
