Mayor Mamdani puts kibosh on Eric Adams planned NYPD hiring spree

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has officially put an end to his predecessor’s ambitious proposal to significantly increase the number of officers in the NYPD, according to the latest budget figures.

Last year, former Mayor Eric Adams attempted to set the stage for this expansion by including a plan in his outgoing budget to add over 5,000 officers to the department’s ranks.

O'Leary claims Mamdani's initiatives will push New Yorkers out of the Big Apple in a mass exodus that would benefit his own business in Florida.

Had this plan been implemented, the NYPD’s force would have swelled to 40,000 officers, marking the highest numbers seen in over two decades.

During his campaign, Mamdani was vocal in his opposition to this increase, assuring the public that the NYPD would not exceed 35,000 officers under his administration’s budgets.

“The issue isn’t about the number of officers; it’s about ensuring safety,” Mamdani stated when questioned about Adams’ proposal, which would have required approval from the new administration in City Hall.
