Michael Madsen’s sister Virginia Madsen was seen for the first time since her brother’s shock death in July.

The actress who received an Oscar nomination, aged 64, was seen out with her mother, Emmy winner Elaine Madsen, 93, in Los Angeles. This appearance comes nearly three months following the death of the Kill Bill actor, who passed away at 67 due to cardiac arrest.

Virginia and Elaine held hands on the rare outing together – which saw the pair don smart outfits in white and lavender tones.

The star made her film debut in 1983 with a small part in Class opposite Rob Lowe.

Her breakout role came the following year when she played Princess Irulan in David Lynch’s Dune.

And she was the main attraction in the horror film Candyman (1992).

Other notable films were The Prophecy (1995), Ghosts of Mississippi (1996), and The Rainmaker (1997).

For her portrayal of waitress Maya Randall in Sideways (2004), Madsen was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2005.

Subsequent credits include A Prairie Home Companion (2006), The Number 23 (2007), The Haunting in Connecticut (2009), Joy (2015), and Lola (2024).

Virginia was married to actor and director Danny Huston after meeting on the set of Mr. North (1988). They married in 1989 and divorced in 1992.

He had a large role on Yellowstone but was killed off; the show returns on November 10.

Virginia was in a long-term relationship with Antonio Sabàto Jr. from 1993 to 1998. They share a son.

And she wed Gilmore Girls actor Nick Holmes in 2020.

Following Michael’s shock death, Virginia paid a heartbreaking tribute to him. 

‘My brother Michael has left the stage,’ Virginia said. 

‘He embodied both strength and gentleness. He was a mischievous soul with a tender heart. A poet with the demeanor of an outlaw. He was a father, son, and brother, full of contradictions but shaped by love that left an indelible impression.’

‘We’re mourning more than just a famous person,’ she expressed. ‘We’re grieving for someone real — not a myth, but a person of flesh, blood, and a passionate heart. He lived life loudly, brilliantly, and with an intense energy. He leaves behind a mix of gruffness, brilliance, and uniqueness — part legend, part comfort.’

In a statement shared with Variety, she concluded: ‘I’ll miss our private jokes, the spontaneous laughter, and hearing his voice. I miss the boy he was before becoming a legend; I miss my older brother.’

‘Thank you to everyone who has shown love and shared memories. In time, we will let you know our plans to honor his life — for now, we cherish being together and let the silence express what words cannot.’ 

The star’s manager Ron Smith claimed to the Daily Mail that Madsen had died from ‘cardiac arrest.’

A statement from the star’s representatives read: ‘In the last two years Michael Madsen has been doing some incredible work with independent film including upcoming feature films Resurrection Road, Concessions and Cookbook for Southern Housewives, and was really looking forward to this next chapter in his life.

‘Madsen was also preparing to release a new book called Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems.

‘Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, who will be missed by many.’

Madsen was best known for his frequent collaborations with director Quentin Tarantino, starring in Reservoir Dogs (1992), Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), The Hateful Eight (2015), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

He also starred in 1997’s Donnie Brasco as Sonny Black

Madsen is survived by his five children. His son Hudson died by suicide in 2022 aged 26.
