Earlier this week, authorities in Wisconsin arrested a man accused of stabbing his girlfriend and then taking a shower before reaching out to 911.

Kevin A. Fischer faces charges of attempted murder, the use of a dangerous weapon, and domestic abuse, as outlined in a criminal complaint submitted on Monday.

The complaint details that Fischer himself dialed 911 shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, admitting to dispatchers that he and his fiancée had a dispute, during which, he confessed, “I tried killing her, she’s bleeding really bad because I stabbed her.”

Fischer expressed to the dispatcher that he did not truly wish for her to die. Meanwhile, the victim’s voice, filled with pain, could be heard in the background, while Fischer apologized, claiming she had wronged him.

“The defendant further stated that he covered the victim up, acknowledging their argument, calling himself a fool, and admitting he acted without thinking,” the complaint notes. He also confessed to taking a shower after tending to his injured girlfriend, now feeling “really sorry.”

“I love her and hate her at the same time,” he said, “but I don’t want her to die.”

Officers had to break the glass at the locked front security door when they arrived so they could get in. Fischer ultimately let them in, and they smelled “intoxicants coming from the defendant,” who was sobbing so uncontrollably they could barely understand him.

The officers found the wounded woman in a back bedroom with a pile of bloodied blankets over her abdomen. A bloody knife was on the bed. The officers observed cuts to the woman’s hip, thigh/knee, and abdomen, which had “caused her small intestine to rupture out of her abdomen and pile on top of her stomach.”

On the way to the hospital, the victim provided a statement to an officer who rode with her. She said she had been with Fischer all day and that he began drinking at about noon. She said she was not drinking and later went to pick up dinner, and then Fischer’s sister came over for board games. Fischer continued to drink, she said, and after the sister left, she told him she was tired and wanted to go to bed.

At that point, she said, he told her he was going to kill her and attacked with the knife. The victim said she had no idea why Fischer turned murderous, saying the attack seemed to come from nowhere. She also said she had little knowledge of what happened between midnight, when his sister left, and 3 a.m.

The victim was rushed into surgery when they arrived at the hospital. Doctors said the surgery was successful, but they had to remove a portion of her intestine.

Back at the residence, officers recovered bloody clothing and a second knife underneath the bed.

Fischer is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 2, according to the Washington County Insider. He’s being held on a $500,000 bond.
