A man from Minnesota has been detained in connection with the death of a woman discovered lifeless in a camper.

Stanley Munstermann, aged 69, faces charges of second-degree murder and was taken into custody at the Wabasha County Jail on February 26. This arrest follows months after Barbara McBride-Law, 66, was found dead in a camper situated in a Mazeppa campground, about 70 miles southeast of Minneapolis. The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office reported that McBride-Law’s body was discovered on August 30, 2025, in a camper near Mac’s Park Place, adjacent to a local bar. Initially, there were no signs of trauma, but a medical examiner later determined that her demise was due to homicidal violence.

Court records accessed by ABC affiliate KSTP reveal that authorities learned Munstermann had been residing with McBride-Law at the campground. When contacted a day after McBride-Law’s body was found, Munstermann informed the police he was at his girlfriend’s residence in Nebraska. He described his relationship with McBride-Law as an enduring friendship from their high school era, rather than a romantic involvement.

Investigations revealed surveillance footage capturing Munstermann’s arrival at the campground on August 28, 2025, and his departure at 3:47 a.m. on August 30, just hours before McBride-Law’s body was discovered. He admitted to the police that he had been drinking excessively on the night of August 29, 2025, and had no recollection of entering McBride-Law’s camper.

Witnesses reported that Munstermann made unsettling remarks following McBride-Law’s death. He allegedly confessed to one individual that he might have killed someone but couldn’t recall the incident. In a separate conversation, he reportedly mentioned he might have seriously injured someone but was unsure of the identity.

Months after McBride-Law was laid to rest, Munstermann was officially charged with her murder on February 26. He faces two counts of second-degree murder and one count of manslaughter, and was subsequently jailed in Wabasha County. According to NBC affiliate KTTC, his arraignment is set for the upcoming Monday.
