Spencer Pratt turns to LAPD after receiving 'credible' death threats

Spencer Pratt has bolstered his security measures after facing death threats linked to his campaign for mayor of Los Angeles, amidst intensified examination of his residential circumstances.

At 42, Pratt is contesting against incumbent mayor Karen Bass and city councilwoman Nithya Raman in a heated race to shape the future leadership of L.A.

Pratt’s campaign team revealed to the Daily Mail that the reality TV star has been targeted with ‘credible threats’ against his life, according to his head of security.

“In response, we’ve enhanced and modified his security arrangements accordingly. We are collaborating closely with the LAPD to ensure Spencer and his family’s safety,” the security lead stated.

“We won’t disclose further specifics. Our sole priority is safeguarding Spencer and his family, not fueling tabloid speculation,” they added.

Pratt’s team also confirmed ongoing communication with the Los Angeles Police Department to address these threats.

Pratt’s campaign sparked controversy last week after TMZ reported that the former MTV star has been staying at the swanky Hotel Bel-Air.

This was despite him previously stating in a campaign ad that he’d been living in an Airstream trailer after his $3million home burned down in the Palisades wildfires last year.

The trailer is reportedly empty as his pop star wife Heidi Montag and their two children are staying in the California town of Carpinteria, while Pratt has spent most of his time based in Los Angeles while campaigning.

After the outlet shared their story about Pratt’s fancy living quarters, the candidate responded on X: ‘Hey guys, why don’t they wanna talk about why I need a hotel in the first place?’

‘Karen Bass let my home burn down,’ he added. ‘Also 6,000 of my neighbors. NBD.’

Pratt later told TMZ that his trailer was not suitable to keep him safe, but that the fancy hotel has ‘its own armed security and that has become the only option.’

Referring to supporters of his rivals, Mayor Bass and Councilwoman Raman, as ‘Bassholes and Ramaniacs’, Pratt said he has faced death threats from ‘whackos.’

‘Since I destroyed them in the debate and am surging in the polls, they are getting increasingly desperate and hostile,’ he said.

The reality star turned politician was widely praised for his performance in a televised debate against Raman and Bass on May 6, with about 90 percent of viewers declaring him the winner, per an NBC Los Angeles poll.

Pratt, best known until now for appearing on the reality television show The Hills, said he was ‘an angry Angeleno running to get LA to be the number one city.’

Could Spencer Pratt really win the LA Mayor race?

Pratt, 42, is currently battling incumbent Karen Bass in a contentious race to lead the future of Los Angeles

‘Their failed leadership is why I’m gonna get elected,’ Pratt added, referring to Bass and Raman.

Pratt has frequently criticized Bass over her handling of the LA wildfires that destroyed thousands of Southern California homes, including his $3.8 million property, in January 2025.

During the debate, Pratt joked that he would rather face only Raman in the election.

‘All the unions support Mayor Bass,’ he said. ‘You think it’s easier to run against the incumbent mayor with all the unions, or a random city council member who has been a failure for six years?’

Pratt’s political run picked up steam as he targeted Bass for how she managed the Palisades Fire, which burned his own home down and left him living in the $2,500-a-night Hotel Bel-Air.

He has also highlighted the high levels of drug use and rampant homelessness in LA, promising a three-week ‘grace period’ to warn criminals, drug users and homeless people to leave the city.

On Saturday, it was claimed by gossip columnist Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack blog that Trump could be considering endorsing Pratt, who is a registered Republican but is running as an Independent.

However, Pratt has insisted that he ‘does not represent a party’ after being labeled a ‘MAGA Republican’ by Raman, who is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

‘I represent all of Los Angeles,’ Pratt told NBC Los Angeles last Friday.

‘I don’t have a campaign manager. I don’t have campaign consultants. There’s no political party backing me.’

Meanwhile, as Pratt campaigns to become the next mayor of Los Angeles, his wife has been busy rehearsing for her performance at the Neon Skies Festival in Canada.

Montag will perform alongside fellow pop divas Kesha and Slayyyter on July 18 in Edmonton, Alberta.

The I’ll Do It hitmaker is also working on her next album, Masterpiece, which is due out in August.
