Speaking after a National Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Scott Morrison reaffirmed the nation’s objective was to ensure hospitals were put under as little pressure as possible throughout the pandemic.

“Our hospitals and health systems are under significant strain at the present. That is unavoidable when you have a pandemic operating at this scale, with this latest variant of the virus.”

Mr Morrison said Australia is constantly trying to strike a balance between the need to keep people at work and protecting hospitals.

“This is a very delicate balance that needs to be constantly recalibrated,” he said.

Mr Morrison said workforce implications was a critical discussion at today’s meeting.
