A student at an elementary school in northwestern Slovakia fatally stabbed a teacher on Tuesday and wounded at least two other people, according to authorities.
Officials have not disclosed a possible motive, and it remained unclear whether police had detained the attacker.
Police said the incident was under control and confirmed that there was no continuing danger to the public.
The teacher who died was a 61-year-old woman.
A student was among those injured and remained in critical condition, while a 41-year-old female teacher was hospitalized with serious injuries, Slovakia’s rescue service reported.

President Peter Pellegrini said he was “deeply saddened by the tragic incident” and, together with Prime Minister Robert Fico, expressed condolences to the victims’ families.
“Such events serve as a serious warning to our entire society,” Pellegrini said. He called for greater attention to the social atmosphere, adding that the country needed “more calm, respect, and mutual regard.”
Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, Education Minister Tomáš Drucker and Health Minister Kamil Šaško traveled to the town following the attack.
The stabbing follows a similar incident last year, when an 18-year-old student killed a 51-year-old deputy principal and an 18-year-old student at a high school in northern Slovakia.
In 2020, a 22-year-old former student attacked a high school in Vrutky, killing the deputy principal and injuring five people, including two students.
Another school attack occurred in 2022, when a high school student wounded a female pupil at a school in Novaky.
