In a dramatic turn of events, authorities have determined that the death of a Texas man, initially thought to be a suicide, was actually a murder orchestrated by his estranged wife. The revelation comes as 31-year-old Breyanai Moore has been taken into custody for the fatal shooting of her husband, 33-year-old Lonnie Moore.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office shared in a Facebook update that Lonnie Moore’s death was initially deemed a self-inflicted gunshot wound. However, deeper examination of the evidence led investigators to reclassify the incident as a homicide.
Nearly nine months after the tragic discovery, authorities have accused Breyanai Moore of being the perpetrator. Lonnie Moore’s lifeless body was discovered in a vehicle left running on the roadside in New Caney, Texas, on the morning of June 15.
According to court records obtained by ABC affiliate KTRK, police interviewed Breyanai Moore following the grim discovery. She revealed that she and Lonnie, who shared a 5-year-old daughter, had been separated for two years. On the morning of his death, she informed him via text about her intention to file for divorce.
However, a friend of Breyanai provided police with a different account. The friend disclosed that Breyanai had used a burner phone to trick Lonnie into picking her up. Once he arrived, she allegedly entered the back seat and shot him as he reached into the back of the vehicle.
Adding to the mounting evidence, Breyanai’s own mother reportedly identified her daughter on surveillance footage captured by Flock cameras in Lonnie’s neighborhood on the morning of his death. Court documents reveal that Breyanai’s mother noted her daughter’s struggles with guilt following the incident, observing significant weight loss and frequent tears.
Breyanai Moore’s mother also reportedly told police that her daughter hated her estranged husband and wished harm on him.
Breyanai Moore was charged with murder and booked into the Montgomery County Jail, where she is being held without bond. Her next court date is scheduled for March 31.
