In a surprising turn of events, law enforcement officers from the California Highway Patrol stumbled upon a significant drug bust in Merced. During a routine traffic stop, several packages of cocaine, valued at roughly $1 million, were uncovered within the floorboards of a vehicle.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday when CHP officers pulled over a Honda Accord on Highway 99, just south of Mission Avenue. The stop was initially prompted by a traffic violation, but it quickly escalated into a major drug discovery.

Upon obtaining permission to search the vehicle, the officers, with the assistance of K9 units and the Merced Area Gang Narcotic Enforcement Team, uncovered two secret compartments beneath the car’s front seats. These compartments were ingeniously hidden and contained approximately 10 kilograms of cocaine.

Interestingly, the cocaine packages bore labels that read “Hotel California,” a nod to the iconic song by the Eagles.

Following the discovery, both the driver and the passenger were promptly taken into custody at the scene. As of now, the identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed by the CHP.

Both occupants were arrested at the scene. The CHP has not released their identities.
