At least two people were killed and nine others were injured early Sunday when gunfire erupted at a cookout in Trenton, New Jersey, authorities said.
Trenton police said officers rushed to a row house on Locust Street at about 12:25 a.m. following reports of multiple shots fired. When they arrived, they found 11 people with gunshot wounds.
Investigators said the violence broke out after an argument involving roughly six people at a neighborhood cookout being held in the street.
The gathering began Saturday and continued late into the night, NBC Philadelphia reported.
The victims were transported to nearby Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Details on their conditions were not immediately available.
A woman who identified herself as the aunt of one of the victims said she drove her nephew to the hospital after he was shot in the head.
Police later cordoned off an entrance to the hospital, which is about two miles from the shooting scene, and had a vehicle parked near the emergency room towed away.
The vehicle appeared to have visible damage, according to NBC Philadelphia.
No arrests have been made, and Trenton Police’s investigation is ongoing.
Cops remained on the scene at Locust Street Sunday morning, where investigators were seen placing nearly 40 evidence markers along the ground.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is investigating.
Trenton Police Department did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
