The victims were an adult and a child, authorities said. Their identities have not been released.

Two juveniles were inside the vehicle when the incident occurred, Moses said. The vehicle remained at the complex, and police reported that the driver did not pose an ongoing threat to the public.

The incident took place on a field adjacent to the inaugural girls flag football state championship. In response, the Kansas State High School Activities Association suspended play at the event.

Authorities have not determined whether the driver entered the field intentionally.

Police said the investigation is still in its early stages. Another briefing was expected Saturday evening.
