CHICAGO – The Chicago Bears are set to face off against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday in what might be one of the most frigid games in Soldier Field’s history.

An arctic blast is sweeping through the Chicago area, resulting in perilous sub-zero wind chills. On Sunday morning, many residents experienced wind chills ranging from -20 to -25 degrees.

Players are mentally bracing themselves for this challenging encounter with the elements, treating it as much an endurance test as a game of football.

“Weather and elements don’t affect me,” remarked Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. “The key is getting warm, keeping my body ready, and making sure I deliver accurate passes to my teammates so they can execute plays.”

In anticipation of the bitter conditions, the team advises fans attending the game at Soldier Field to take precautions. These include:

Dr. Nicholas Cozzi, EMS Medical Director at Rush University Medical Center, joined ABC7 Chicago to talk about the dangerous cold this weekend.

With numerous fans planning to tailgate hours before kickoff, the Bears remind everyone that open flames are strictly prohibited in all parking lots. This means no grilling or open fire pits are allowed.

-Firepits in any parking lot
-No tents or canopies
-And no grills or heaters using liquefied fuels inside parking garages

Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon placed on IR with groin injury

The Chicago Bears placed cornerback Kyler Gordon on injured reserve on Saturday because of a groin injury.

Gordon will miss the remaining four regular-season games because of an injury he sustained in warm-ups prior to Chicago’s loss at Green Bay last week, his latest setback in an injury-riddled season. Signed to a three-year, $40 million extension in April, he has played in just three games.

Gordon missed the first four games because of a hamstring injury and five more because of a groin issue before returning for Chicago’s win at Philadelphia in Week 13. A second-round draft pick by the Bears in 2022, he has five career interceptions.

Chicago (9-4) elevated running back Brittain Brown and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against Cleveland (3-10).

The Bears had won five straight and nine of 10 before last week. They fell behind Green Bay for the NFC North lead and tumbled from first to seventh in the conference.
