A heartwarming story has emerged from Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport, where a 2-year-old dog, left behind by a traveler, has found a loving home with a police officer involved in his rescue.
Nicknamed Jet Blue, the goldendoodle was adopted by Officer Skeeter Black of the Las Vegas police. This adoption took place a few weeks after the dog was abandoned at a ticket counter in the Nevada airport. The previous owner had been informed that Jet Blue could not accompany her on the flight, leading to this unfortunate situation. The department shared this uplifting news on Facebook over the weekend.
“After being discovered tethered to a baggage sizer in Terminal 3 of Harry Reid International Airport, Jet Blue is now on his way to a permanent home,” the police department announced in their touching post.
“What started as a sad act of abandonment has blossomed into an inspiring story of compassion, collaboration, and community spirit,” they added.
Emotional images and videos released by the department show Officer Black and his family celebrating with a gleeful Jet Blue outside the Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas, marking the completion of the adoption process.
Jet Blue had been under the care of the animal shelter since February 2, following his abandonment at the airport.
Police said the hero cop and his family had been already approved by the adoption agency months earlier in their search for a goldendoodle – and were quickly chosen to give the cheerful dog a loving home.
The helpless pup was rescued at the travel hub’s JetBlue ticket counter after his careless owner was told she couldn’t board the plane with him without service dog documentation.
She then tied the dog’s leash to the counter and marched off to the departure gate, leaving the confused pup behind, according to heart wrenching footage shared by police.
The hostile woman, who was not identified, was swiftly tracked down at the airport and arrested for animal abandonment and resisting arrest.
Police said she made no attempts to reclaim the goldendoodle.
“Today, Jet Blue’s next journey begins this time, surrounded by the people who stepped in when he needed it the most,” the department said.
“Bon voyage, Jet Blue and welcome to a new life where you’ll be loved beyond words by Officer Black and his family.”
