Alabama beauty queen charged in overseas murder-for-hire plot won't go to trial until 2026

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A native of the Wiregrass region, who is also a former beauty queen from Dothan, is facing charges of conspiring to murder her husband while vacationing in The Bahamas. Her trial has now been scheduled for the following year.

Lindsay Shiver is set to appear in court in Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, on March 2, 2026. She will be tried alongside Terrence Bethel and Faron Newbold Jr., who are also alleged to have been involved in the conspiracy.

Shiver’s trial was originally scheduled for Friday, but it has been postponed for the fourth time. The reasons for the latest delay remain unclear.

Shiver is currently out on bond and is staying with her family in the Wiregrass. She is allowed to travel to Georgia to visit her children.

In July 2023, Shiver, Bethel, and Newbold Jr. were arrested after investigators reportedly linked them to a plot to murder Shiver’s husband, Robert, through a contracted killer.

All three individuals were released on bail following their arrests. Nevertheless, Shiver and Bethel were rearrested in late October 2024 after spending over a year out of prison. Their bonds were revoked because they allegedly violated pre-trial publicity restrictions in The Bahamas by appearing on “Good Morning America” and “Inside Edition” earlier that month.

Shiver and Bethel were later granted a second chance at freedom when a judge reinstated their bail just a few months later.

During the segment aired on WDHN via “GMA,” only Bethel made a public statement regarding the ongoing case. He staunchly declared both his and Shiver’s innocence, asserting that the situation had been exaggerated.

Shiver, Bethel and Newbold Jr. were arrested after police in The Bahamas claimed they found messages on WhatsApp between Bethel and Shiver, which allegedly included photos of Robert along with the message “Kill him.”

The messages between the two were discovered while authorities investigated a break-in at a bar on Guana. Police claim they came across the messages on the social media app while searching the phone of one of the break-in suspects.
