Vice President Kamala Harris has aligned herself with other progressive Democrats by expressing her opposition to a regime change in Iran.
Harris, who previously served as a U.S. Senator, voiced her criticism of Operation Epic Fury and President Donald Trump soon after the attack unfolded on Saturday.
She characterized the military action as “a war the American people do not want.”
Despite this stance, Israeli officials have reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with 10 senior figures in his secure compound and over 40 top Iranian security and regime officials, remain a focal point.
“Let me be clear: I oppose a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for Trump’s war of choice,” Harris stated in a post on social media platform X, released on Saturday.
“This is a perilous and unnecessary risk to American lives that also threatens regional stability and our global standing. What we are witnessing is not strength; it is recklessness masquerading as determination,” she continued.
The former VP then claimed she is well aware of the âthreat that Iran posesâ and agreed that they âmust never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon,â but said that âthis is not the way to dismantle that threat.â

Harris then attacked the president as a liar for not only saying during the presidential campaign, that he would âend wars rather than start them,â but also for saying that the US had âobliteratedâ Iran’s nuclear programâ last year.
âAnd let us all be clear-eyed about what comes next. The President has already said this conflict may produce American casualtiesâ¦Our troops deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day. Under the Constitution of the United States, the President must receive authorization from Congress to enter a war,â the former VP went on.
Harris closed out her statement declaring that actions on Saturday were âunwise, unjustified, and not supported by the American people.â
âThere can be no equivocation in our opposition to Donald Trump’s war of choice, and Congress must use all available power to prevent him from further committing us to this conflict. Our troops, our allies, and the American people deserve nothing less.â
Harris immediately faced criticism on social media from those who questioned her leadership ability.
âThank You Kamala! We Love You! Sincerely, The Mullahs,â wrote longtime Israeli supporter and advocate John Ondrasik of the music group Five for Fighting.
Another person added, âWhen you can put a sentence together, weâll consider listening.â
While a third wrote, âWhat the âAmerican people wantâ has always seemed to have eluded you. Try to stop confusing it with âwhat we want the American people to want.â When the polls come out next week, you will again be totally surprised by how unpopular your positions are.â
Fellow Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom also attacked Trump for Saturdayâs operation in Iran and got destroyed for labeling the airstrikes in Iran âillegal, dangerous warâ while ripping President Trumpâs decision to attack Tehran.
âThe corrupt and repressive Iranian regime must never have nuclear weapons. The leadership of Iran must go,â Newsom wrote on X Saturday, after the US and Israel launched the coordinated strikes early that morning.
âBut that does not justify the President of the United States engaging in an illegal, dangerous war that will risk the lives of our American service members and our friends without justification to the American people.
The comments earned immediate criticism from those who questioned the potential 2028 presidential candidateâs position.
âWhich one is Gavin? They canât have nuclear weapons and need to be removed? Or is the operation not justified?â one X user responded. âPick one stance please. If you want to run for President, you should get comfortable making bold statements on where you stand.â
Another defended Trump’s authority, arguing Trump was within his constitutional powers to authorize the strikes: writing: âNot illegal â but youâd have to be able to read the Constitution to know that,â the user wrote.
The military action followed weeks of stalled talks over Iranâs refusal to dismantle its nuclear program.
