A devastating fire tore through a pub in Bangkok early Monday, leaving at least 27 people dead and several others injured as customers struggled to escape the smoke-choked building, authorities said.
The fire was reported around midnight at the Na Ladprao pub in the northern section of Thailand’s capital, The Associated Press reported, citing rescue workers.
Footage released by first responders showed flames shooting from the front of the venue and dense black smoke rising overhead while people rushed to get out.

Fire crews managed to bring the blaze under control within roughly 30 minutes, according to The Associated Press.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, speaking at the scene, said 27 people had died and that multiple injured victims were transported to a hospital.
Authorities have not yet determined what sparked the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.

A musician performing at the pub told Anutin he saw smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the power went out, the prime minister said.
Moments later, an explosion was heard, and thick smoke spread through the venue, The Associated Press reported.
Many of the victims were located in restrooms at the back of the pub, Anutin said.

Photos from the aftermath showed heavy damage inside the building.
Deadly nightlife fires have struck Thailand in the past. In 2022, a fire at a music pub in eastern Thailand killed 14 people.
