The same defense lawyer handling the case of the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination is also involved in the Utah murder trial against Kouri Richins. This case recently faced a setback when the star witness retracted vital testimony.
On September 24, Utah County officials appointed Kathryn Nester to represent Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of fatally shooting Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University.
Nester is simultaneously working on Richins’ case, where prosecutors claim that she poisoned her husband, Eric Richins, with fentanyl in March 2022.
A shared defense link appears as a new twist unfolds in Richins’ trial: the state’s chief witness, Robert Crozier, has withdrawn his statement indicating he supplied the fentanyl alleged to have killed Eric Richins.

Richins has pleaded not guilty to all charges and continues to deny her involvement in her husband’s death. Her trial is currently set to start in February 2026.
