CHICAGO () — Chicago is gearing up for a packed weekend, with major sports, festivals and fan events expected to keep the city buzzing.
From basketball and the Blackhawks to baseball and street festivals, crowds will have no shortage of reasons to head out across the city.
WNBA All-Stars are already in town, getting up shots on a regulation-size basketball court at the Obama Presidential Center.
The WNBA is celebrating its 30th season with a distinctly Chicago-style spotlight.
Some of the league’s top talent is in the Windy City for the WNBA All-Star Game, bringing national attention to Chicago’s basketball scene.
While no Chicago Sky players are on the All-Star roster, fans will still find a full slate of events celebrating the league, its athletes and the growth of women’s sports.
Ahead of Saturday’s tip-off, the city is already in game mode as WNBA All-Star Weekend festivities begin.
The All-Star Game will showcase many of the league’s biggest names, giving fans a close-up look at the stars shaping the future of the WNBA.
While former Chicago Sky and current Atlanta Dream player Angel Reese was selected as an All Star Reserve, the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark was voted in as a starter.
But taking center court at McCormick Place will be WNBA Live, an interactive fan festival featuring special appearances and more.
“You want to pick up a ball and shoot, if you want to take photo ops, if you want customized merch, there is so many different things that fans can do here” Amanda Allhouse, WNBA senior director said.
Former President Barack Obama met with all the all star team players on the basketball court located at this presidential center.
“Congratulations on the WNBA – I could not be prouder of what you guys are doing,” Obama said.
This is the second time Chicago has played hosted the game.
Like in years past, along with the premier event the goal is to deliver an unforgettable fan experience.
“I just love basketball in general so seeing all of it and playing, it’s fun to me,” fan Jimmy Hanson said. “Any kind of basketball skill is great.”
