The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released footage showing an officer fatally shoot a knife-wielding man after he refused to drop his weapons.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has released body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting where a man armed with a knife was fatally shot on the Westside in early May.

Officers were called to Jillian Drive on Friday, May 2, following a report of a fight that had ended in injuries. Upon arriving at the scene, officer D. Zheng observed 58-year-old Norbal Garcia Jr. wielding two knives.

The body camera footage, released on Saturday, corroborates this account, showing Garcia standing over two injured individuals. These victims, identified by JSO, were positioned against a fence stained with blood. JSO reported that one victim had already suffered injuries when Zheng arrived.

The footage shows Zheng shout at Garcia multiple times, ordering him to drop the knives, but Garcia ignores Zheng’s orders. Instead, Garcia continues his interaction with the two victims at the fence and eventually takes multiple steps toward them, which is when Zheng shoots him.

JSO said Zheng administered emergency aid to Garcia until paramedics arrived.

Garcia was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
