Police release photos of 2nd suspect wanted for armed robbery of children’s lemonade stand in Boston

Boston police have released images of a second suspect sought in connection with last month’s armed robbery of a child-run lemonade stand, an incident that unsettled the South Boston community.

The suspect, who remains at large, is shown shirtless in the photos, wearing black pants and carrying a black backpack after the June 10 holdup.

David Byrne, 12, and his 11-year-old sister, Juliette, were selling lemonade on the sidewalk near their West Ninth Street home in South Boston when two male juvenile suspects allegedly walked past several times before approaching the stand.

According to the Boston Police Department, the suspects asked the children whether they accepted Apple Pay, and before the siblings could answer, one of them displayed a black firearm tucked into his waistband.

Police said the second suspect then grabbed the children’s cash box, which held about $50, before both suspects ran off.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested following the theft and charged with two counts of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

“I just was like a little annoyed because we were 12 and 11 and you shouldn’t really do that,” David told the outlet when describing the robbery.

The children’s father, Dave Byrne, called the incident “outrageous,” saying it was alarming for something like this to happen in “such a good community,” and urged officials to increase neighborhood presence to help prevent similar crimes.

Following the robbery, the South Boston community rallied around the siblings, who reopened their lemonade stand two days later and were met with large crowds of people — including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and City Councilor Ed Flynn, the outlet reported.

According to City Councilor Flynn, half the profits made from the re-opened lemonade stand will be donated to a local gun violence prevention organization.

“I never thought this many people would come,” Juliette said. “It really makes me feel happy.”
